Formatting Equations, Images, and Tables

How to format assignment text and add math, images, and tables in Personify editors.

This article preserves the useful editor guidance from the older instructor docs. It remains relevant because Personify still supports rich assignment editors and an equation editor.

Text Formatting

Pasted content from Microsoft Word usually preserves line breaks and tabs.
Press Enter to create a new line.
Press Shift + Enter to create a tighter line break.

Equations, Images, and Tables

Use the insert controls above the editor to add supported rich content. For equations, the equation editor can help create math from typed language, drawing, or uploaded material.

KaTeX Syntax

Equations can also be written with KaTeX syntax by wrapping math in dollar signs. For example:

Solve for x: $x^2 = \frac{1}{4}$

$x_n$ creates a subscript.
$\\sqrt{x}$ creates a square root.
$\\frac{1}{x}$ creates a fraction.
$\\sum_{i=0}^n x_i$ creates a summation.
$\\int_a^b x^2 dx$ creates an integral.

If dollar signs are being interpreted as math delimiters when you mean currency, use USD instead.
